LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Virtually every company, institution, supplier, builder, decision maker involved in design & construction knows what the anagram LEED stands for. And clearly the emphasis from the majority is on the design, construction, operation and maintenance of “green” buildings, homes and neighborhoods. In other words “green” – the buzz word of the building profession. LEED is everywhere you look.
But what is often overlooked is the most important word in the description: “LEADERSHIP”. All of us in the construction industry, must individually & corporately, be “leaders” in this important environmental movement and never cease learning, improving and contributing to “leading” especially within the industry in which we are associated. Moderco is and will continue to be a “leader” when it comes to important issues such as LEED.
The evolvement of LEED is very specific and staying credible as a proponent of the movement requires a company to stay current as to the LEED changes and improvements. Since LEED evolved in 1988 as LEED v1.0 there have been many changes and improvements to the standards: LEED NCv2.0, LEED NCv2.2, LEED 2009 (or LEED v3) in 2009. LEED v4 was introduced in November 2013. Until October 31, 2016 new projects could choose between LEED 2009 and LEED v4 in order to obtain credits and certification.
BUT NEW PROJECTS REGISTERING AFTER OCTOBER 31, 2016 MUST USE LEED v4.
MODERCO published an updated version of all the company and products environmental documentation in Dec 2016 so that it is in line with the LEED v4 requirements. All products and services provided by Moderco can be used for credits purpose in order to attain LEED v4 certification. Like so many other responsible manufacturers we are committed to maintaining a leadership role when it involves the environment and will do all that is necessary to assist in the design, maintenance and construction of “green” buildings.

What is LEED v4 and how is it beneficial to the marketplace, local communities and to our planet? In addition to credits that are achieved through previous versions of LEED the following are added.
- Additional incentives are defined that result in higher point credits and higher certification levels allowing teams to strategize in order to define and achieve their goals. Integrative thinking, energy, waste, materials, location and transportation, health and human experience, innovation etc. are some of the advanced strategies in which Moderco products might be applicable for credits.
- There is an expanded focus on metering and monitoring that encourages building owners to track energy, water and ventilation rates. Project teams can find strategies around performance at both the required level and the optional credit level. Higher levels of performance in the design, construction and operations level that might be impacted by using Moderco products include Health and Human experience, Energy and materials and waste.
Moderco is an environmentally responsible company and will do whatever is needed, now and in the future, to make our customers equally environmentally responsible by utilizing LEED v4 criteria in the manufacture of our partitions.
